In 1215 AD, Sukapha, a prince of the Shan dynasty, embarked on an unforgettable journey with his army from the city of Maulung in Yunnan Province in southeastern China, a journey that changed the history of another country. Their destination was a country of gilded garden called Mung Dung Sung Kham. After losing many companions and struggling with many challenges along a very difficult and dangerous road, Sukapha’s party finally reached their destination (then Saumarapitha). For twenty-five years, Sukapha’s party wandered around this unfamiliar country in search of a suitable place to establish their capital. Finally, in 1253 AD, at the end of a thirty-eight-year campaign, Chukapha established his capital at Cheraidai (now Charideo) and began a new era. ‘Mung Dung Sung Kham’ is a small attempt to go back to the historical journey of Chaulung Sukapha and that glorious history – a thrilling story of the unparalleled courage, perseverance and tireless efforts of Swargadeo Sukapha, the founder of Greater Assam.
