Most of the stories included in Epar Xipar by Ajanta were originally published in Prantik. “Jalkuwori” (Water Maiden), “Ishwaror Upohar” (God’s Gift), and The Casino Bar — these three stories are primarily sea-centric. Set against the backdrop of the Andaman Islands and Goa, these stories narrate love tales that unfold through vivid descriptions of water sports, marine creatures, and the lifestyle of island dwellers. The story Jalkuwori revolves around scuba diving and tourism.
Due to professional commitments, the author has spent a significant period in Arunachal Pradesh and is known as the “Adopted Daughter” of Arunachal’s intellectual society. Naturally, most of her stories are set in Arunachal Pradesh. Stories like Guli, Epar Xipar, Shil, and Donyi-Polo Express highlight the vibrant lives of the diverse tribal communities of Arunachal, alongside the ever-green and beautiful nature of the region. The recurring theme of harmony and brotherhood between the two neighboring states — Assam and Arunachal — is always vividly evident in Ajanta’s narratives.
