The novel titled “AEC Aru Uranta Somoy” has been authored by Satyendra Sharma, a retired engineer and an alumnus of Assam Engineering College, Jalukbari.
Inspired by enjoyable and widely read campus novels based on the spontaneous environment of renowned educational institutions across Assam, India, and different corners of the world, and through the recollection of countless memories from his own days of study at Assam Engineering College, the author has written this novel. The narrative progresses around a special day when several former residents of Hostel No. 6 of Assam Engineering College, who have been living and working in various parts of India and abroad, reunite on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebration of Hostel No. 6. Yet, beyond this reunion setting, the author endeavors to present a vivid documentary-like picture of the joys and sorrows, achievements and disappointments of their personal lives.
The novel beautifully presents the personal happiness and struggles, academic challenges, successes and failures, and the long-term effects of those experiences on their later professional lives, experiences faced during the most important period of life spent in the hostel. Parallel to these fragmented stories and sub-stories, the unusual and eventful love story of one among the close group of friends adds a special dimension to the novel.
